Originally from Australia, it is an ornamental tree with a pyramidal shape and fast growth, which can reach a height of 15m.
It tolerates from -4ºC to 40ºC.
Tolerant to drought and salinity, it requires moderate watering without waterlogging.
Flowering occurs between spring and summer, with medium-sized pink/mauve flowers.
The fruit is a capsule that contains the seeds among stinging hairs, which is why it is also known as Pica pica.
