Originating from Peru and the Andean region of South America, it is a fast-growing tree with a lush canopy, capable of reaching 15m in height.
Temperature range from -10ºC to 34ºC and it is drought-resistant once established.
Spring flowering (May/June), in clusters of whitish flowers.
The fruits are small pink-reddish drupes, whose seeds are used as a substitute for pepper.
