Native to the Mediterranean basin, it is a tree up to 10m tall, evergreen and dioecious, with slow growth and very rustic.

It is very drought-resistant, but when the plant is young, it requires regular watering.
Inconspicuous flowers, which develop on the trunk and branches, between September/November.
The fruit is harvested from the month of August; it is a fruit on the rise, highly valued for both human and animal consumption.
